What it is

Players want to know three things before a match: what is strong right now, what to build, and which runes to take. Forge of Runeterra answers them in one place, and it is kept current for the latest patch. At the time of writing it covers 169 champions and more than 170 builds and guides.

Walkthrough

  1. Browse the championsOpen the champion list to see every champion with their role and a quick read on how they are doing on the current patch.
  2. Check the tier listThe tier list ranks champions for the patch, so you can see at a glance who is strong and who is not.
  3. Open a buildEach champion page lays out item builds, rune pages and counters, with data taken straight from Riot.
  4. Read a guideLonger guides cover how to play a champion and why the build works, not just the list of items.
  5. Look yourself upSearch by Riot ID, like Name and Tag, to pull up stats and rank. Signing in lets you save things.
  6. Follow the patchA banner shows which patch the data is live for and when the content was last reviewed by hand.

How it's built

  • The whole site is one HTML file with no framework, which keeps it fast and easy to host. A short loading screen covers the moment the champion data arrives.
  • Champion stats, items and runes come automatically from Riot's Data Dragon API, so a new patch updates the numbers without me retyping anything.
  • Tier lists and guides are written and reviewed by hand each patch, because a number alone does not explain why a champion is good.
  • Accounts use Supabase for sign-in, so there is no server of my own to run.
  • It is hosted on GitHub Pages under its own domain, and the page includes the search metadata that helps it show up well on Google and when it is shared.
